Do you remember the feeling you had when you completed your first successful coding project? Wasn’t it amazing to see all the effort, the late nights and the sweat and tears you poured into your work all come together? Utilizing Cloud Code and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) Autopilot, we want you to rediscover those feelings and share them with your coding colleagues at this hackathon! 

This hackathon is for developers who love to tinker, build, debug, try new code and for those who love to share their passion for coding and making coding easier for the developer community.

The Challenge

Your hackathon projects will focus on one of the following challenges:

Challenge Statement #1 - The Next Level of Love

Take that love of code to the next level! Enterprises are always interested in solutions that allow their employees to work smarter, not harder. Have you heard similar questions like these before: “can you add a feature to this existing product?” or “how can we make this tool better?” or even “is this feature worth keeping?” If you’ve put a lot of work into looking at code and seeing how solutions, products or applications could be better, then this challenge is for you!

Using Cloud Code and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) Autopilot, build a managed service application that makes creating, sharing, debugging or deploying code easier. Can your solution be utilized by an enterprise or within the developer community?

Challenge Statement #2 - For the Love of Gaming

Calling all gamers: as a game developer or a gaming enthusiast, the best way for you to show love is by, of course, creating a game! Show off your skills, while utilizing Cloud Code and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) Autopilot, to devise a game that shows love, gives love, or simply shows your love of gaming. Your imagination is the limit!

Challenge Statement #3 - Spreading the Love

We’ve all been disconnected from friends and family for months due to the looming pandemic. What best way to show that you care, love and miss your loved ones by creating something to spread that love? Take on this challenge by creating an application - whether it is a service or a tool - that connects others to their loved ones using Cloud Code and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) Autopilot. Spread that love one application at a time!

Challenge Statement #4 - Wildcard

Do you have a solution that encompasses more than one of the challenges above? Do you have an idea that is completely out of the box, but still addresses the theme at hand? If so, the Wildcard challenge is for you! Use Cloud Code, Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) Autopilot, and your own technology to create a unique and useful solution, like a better dating app or a love meter that shows others how much love you have for them!

Judging Criteria and Prizes

Your projects will be judged on the following judging criteria: 

Technical Execution:

How has the team effectively utilized the GCP technologies? 

How easy is the application to use? 

How advanced is the prototype presented?

Is there a working demo?

Challenge Fit:

How relevant is the project to the stated challenge?


Is the solution possible, or just nice in theory?

$10,000 Prize Pool!

Google Cloud will be awarding five prizes in total at this hackathon!

The winners of each category will receive $2,000 for their team (to be equally divided amongst team members). Please note that the winner for Best use of Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) Autopilot is also eligible to win one of the 4 other category prizes!

Tuesday | April 20 - Individual registration for the hackathon closes at midnight

Tuesday | April 20 - Team Registration closes - all teams must register their team on the event platform by midnight

Project Deadline:

Wednesday | April 21 @ 11:59 pm PT - All final presentation videos and projects must be submitted by 11:59 pm PST in order to qualify for the hackathon. Late submissions will not be accepted.


April 23 - 28 - Judges will review projects
